6 Hours to Kill before flight in New York City, what to do

6 Hours to Kill before flight in New York City, what to do?
Going on a cruise in June, we are leaving from a port in Newark, NJ. When we return on June 10th, we dock at 8:00am, but our return flight home does not leave from Newark Airport until 3:30pm. I was wondering if this would allow enough time to ride over to New York City and have lunch or something and make it back in time to check in for our flight? Any suggestions on what to do will be appreciated. Thanks,

Less that six hours: 8:00 a.m. arrival, figure by the time everything's done it'll be 10:00 a.m. A 3:30 p.m. flight, you should check in at the very latest by 2:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. would be a better idea. That leaves your four hours: You can make it to Manhattan, walk around some, and make it back to Newark Airport in that time, sure. Newark is right across the river from Manhattan. And Manhattan is small. Pick one touristy-thing to see; get a cab at the port, go there. Walk around some. Have lunch. Grab a cab back to Newark Airport. Yes, cabs are expensive, but they're also a sure thing and about the easiest way for someone who isn't familiar with NYC (and environs) public transit to get around.

Katz's Deli. is the place where Meg Ryan enjoyed her faux orgasm. Cannot say you'll have a similar experience, but the hot pastrami is special. Atmosphere? Pure NYC. Angelo's in Little Italy (Try the Veal Marsala, outstanding) Carmine's in T-Sq. Try the calamari. One dish per entre. One will always feed two people. If you eat in Little Italy (Angelo's) You won't be sorry if you save room for Ferrara's Cafe, These places are breakfast and lunch. You will not be ther at dinner. Have fun. I always have.

If your ship actually docks at 8:00am it will be at least 9:00am before you and your luggage are off the ship. You need to be at the airport at least two (2) full hours before your flight. That leaves you 4 1/2 hours, during which time you have to travel to the airport. You also have to do something with your luggage in the meantime. I think you should go to the airport and check-in. Then decide if you have enough time to go somewhere. If you do there are express buses between Newark airport and Grand Central Station in Manhattan. If you don't have enough time to go anywhere, EWR has lots to do, including a real bookstore.

You don't have much time. Just go to the Rockefeller Center, go to the top and have lunch in the restaurant there.
