Why is it so hard to find an affordable (under $1,200) non-stop flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt? I have?
looked on many major travel sites (yes, including Kayak), and either the prices are ridiculously expensive, or I have to do a round-the-world airport tour before I arrive in Cairo very late. Since when did a major city like Cairo require a connection? There should be MANY major airlines regularly making non-stop flights to Cairo, just like they do in London and Tokyo.

Delta Airlines is the only American airline that operates flights non stop from New York to Cairo, Egypt. I would try to look for a flight that stops in England, otherwise, you should expect to pay bunches for a nonstop trip to Cairo Egypt.

Well, one possible option to at least look into is using Las Vegas as Layover. No, seriously. vegas casinos pay the airlines big bucks to make all flights to and from Vegas super cheap. I'm in socal, for example, & if I wanted to fly to Hawaii through LAX, it would be around $450, but a flight to vegas, then from vegas to hawaii, it would only cost about $199!! So give that a look, I don't know about nonstops from vegas to cairo... But who knows?!

Airline companies go into business to make money, that is their bottom line. They have entire accounting departments that are responsible for figuring out ways to make more money. If they don't do something, it's because they've evaluated the situation and figured out that it doesn't make them enough money to make it worth doing. They know more than us about that stuff so I'm sure they have their reasons (most likely it's because Cairo is nowhere near as busy as Tokyo and NY are, so they want to pick others up first in those other countries instead of wasting tons of money on sending a 2nd plane out there). It's a major hub, but definitely not on the same level as NY and Tokyo. Those other places are most likely busier not just because of the amount of tourists going to Japan and NY, but because those hubs are closer to other major tourist areas (China, S. Korea, Thailand etc. and Canada/South America). What countries surround Egypt? All the North African countries that aren't quite as popular for tourists, so the hub is not as busy.

dear boy, if they would make money, the airlines would be flying, believe me. Yes, you can go nonstop on Egyptair or Delta, but you have to pay what they are asking. under $1200 would be cheap for Europe, and you are going much further

The route does not have a lot of airlines flying direct and it also depends on when you are flying there. If you are flying during peak travel times, then ticket prices will be higher. You can see if a travel agent can get you some better pricing.
