Using the SellOffVacations.com website, I searched for flights from La Guardia (LGA) to Trudeau Airport in Montreal (YUL). http://www.selloffvacations.com/default.aspx The cheapest flight I found leaving during the week and returning during the week was about US$660. Flights were available from Air Canada, American Airways, and United Airlines. By the way, have you considered driving instead? It's only about 6 or 7 hours straight up I-87. It should only cost you one tank of gas each way. When you consider the cost for the flight, it is probably less expensive. And when you calculate that you need to get to the airport almost three hours before the flight to get past airport security, and that the flight is 2 hours long, you would only be losing an hour or two by driving. Just a thought. Another alternative is Amtrak. It takes a bit longer (11 hrs) because they stop at various stations on the way, but it only costs US$130 for a round trip ticket, and it drops you off at Montreal's Central Station downtown. No need for a $50 taxi ride from the airport in Dorval on top of your $660 airfare... http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak

About 450-500$ How about Greyhound? Bus round trip tickets are about 115$ and you leave and arrive dowtown compared to the airports. Takes around 8hours overnight.

I suggest driving, if you have a vehicle and the time to do that. It takes roughly 6 to 8 or 9 hours (depending on variables like weather, traffic, personal driving habits, how often and for how long you stop, etc). The toll isn't very high - well under $10 as I recall - and the money you spend on gas is still going to be far less than what you'd be spending on airfare. Otherwise, if you have to take public transportation, as someone already suggested Greyhound is probably your best bet. Slow, but relatively affordable.

Try expedia travel on line, it will give you different fares from different companies at different times and dates. I use it and it does a good job, it gives you reminders, and useful information as tips for your flight. Totally recommended.
